Mafia Games Monday (MGM) – End of Year Celebration!

December 29, 2014

Hello everyone!

This is the last MGM post of the year! For those of you who saw my post last week, you probably saw the one of the very last things that I said on that post: “Stay tuned because you may find a nice surprise on this blog next week!” Well, what’s the surprise you may ask? Well, the surprise is a free game modification! Hooray!! 🙂

The mod is called “Attacks with Spells”. The mod is called this specifically because that is basically what it is: it allows users to attack other users with spells (which are items). With this in mind, I’m sure you mafia game owners have questions in regards to this mod, so I’m going to put the basic questions here on this post to address them:

  1. What engine does this mod support? – This mod was built for McCodes v2.0.5; however, it can be easily converted to use for other game engines. If you would like a conversion-ed version, please contact me and I can help you out! 🙂
  2. What are the new database tables? – There is one new database table that I made for this mod.
  3. What database tables need to be updated? – There are a couple of database tables that need to be updated. The tables are items and users.
  4. What are the new file(s)? – There is one new file. The name is equip_spell.php.
  5. What files need to be updated? – Well there are several. The files are attack.php, inventory.php, staff_items.php, and unequip.php.
  6. Where’s the code? – I didn’t post the code. Why is that? Because this blog post would last forever. There are many intricate changes that I made to those files above (especially attack.php) that it is extremely difficult to post this code without really posting the entire file.
  7. So how can I get this mod? – Contact me! I will gladly give you the mod with all of the information you will need in order to use it properly.

So, maybe this is not exactly what you wanted (as most of you are looking for code), but I started posting the code and it started getting really complex and complicated. So, I thought that for simplicity, contacting me and sending you the files with the updated code already there is the best bet. If you have customized code already, contact me anyways! I can do some comparisons for you with your already customized code in order to make sure that this mod is placed in the correct spot in your code. 🙂

That’s all for now, until next year…keep that tech gear ticking.

Christmas Celebrations

December 25, 2014

Hello all, and a Merry Christmas to all of you! 🙂

This holiday season is certainly a time of giving presents, going to parties, and drinking some egg nog.

However, personally, I think this holiday season should also be a time of reflection. This reflection should have questions like “How are our relationships doing?” and “Where are we going to go from here in our lives?”. There are always things we can do to improve ourselves in order to not only benefit ourselves, but also benefit those who are around us: our friends, our family, and even random strangers.

Random strangers? How does improving ourselves benefit them?

I’m glad you asked! When we focus on bettering ourselves as people, we notice things around us that we may not have really taken notice before. That could include a soup kitchen nearby, the salvation army, the red cross, and many other charitable works throughout the USA as well as the world. All of these places work on helping people whom they don’t even know. It is a great way to give back those graces that we have given throughout our lives as well as put a smile on somebody’s face. I have worked in the soup kitchen around Christmas time for years, and seeing that smile on their face, especially a child’s face, just for a warm meal, is priceless. It really gives you a sense of true understanding of how fortunate you are compared to others.

Benefiting ourselves is also something that starts with goals. As with those “New Year’s Resolutions” that you say you’re going to do but never do, how about this year make a goal that is more realistic. Those goals will help motivate you to accomplish many achievements in your lives that while may seem small to you, they may certainly have a much larger impact on others in your life.

So, for this holiday season, give something to someone who you have never met before. A random stranger. That something can be your time, talent, or treasure. You would be amazed at how much it could impact somebody’s life for the better.

That’s all for now, until next time…keep that tech gear ticking.

Mafia Games Monday (MGM) – Projects Updates

December 22, 2014

Hey all,

It is Christmas time! Hooray!! 🙂

I wanted to update you all on some projects that I have been working on the past six months. I have worked on many different projects using many different gaming engines: McCodes, GRPG, RC, NWE, and others. Here are just a few projects that I have been working on the past six months:

  1. Killers Instinct Mafia ( – This game is run by a fantastic owner (shout out to my friend Tang!) who really cares about the players. I have made many improvements here and there in order to make the game better, so go check it out and see for yourself! 🙂
  2. The Mafia King ( – This game is something that has been in the works for a very long time. I have completely re-done the back-end processes in order to separate crons, query the data more efficiently, and re-organize the file structure. Go check it out and certainly let me know of your thoughts!
  3. Mafia Turf ( – This game is again run by owners who are committed to make the game a better place. I have worked with the owners in order to make several different code changes, including a completely new experience algorithm (which for those of you who code, you understand how difficult that can be). Go check it out! 🙂
  4. Mafia Empries ( – This game is very unique, and I haven’t really seen a mafia game quite like this. This game attempts to take a text-based MMORPG and re-create it as a 3D MMORPG game. I just started working on this project, but the code base is that of which I never experienced before. The owner is certainly very talented at what he does, and I sure hope to learn quite a lot of different technologies working on this project. Go check it out and let me know what you think! 🙂

There are many other little projects here and there that I have worked on, but I certainly did not want to bore you with continuous rambling on.

Stay tuned because you may find a nice surprise on this blog next week!

Wind Farms Underwater?

December 18, 2014

Hello all,

I stumbled upon a CNN article that really intrigued me. This article discussed the potential of having wind farms underwater as a new, renewable energy source. If these underwater wind farms could really help power the world’s electricity, this could really help the future of where we get our electricity from. This also may create a whole new industry.

What are the cons to this new energy source? Well, at least from what I’ve read, there are a couple cons that I came up with:

  1. Impact of the underwater sea life – It was mentioned in the article that the fans would only turn between 12-18 RPM, which is very low for sea life, but I am concerned on really seeing the effects of having these wind farms underwater. It was also mentioned in the article that most sea life will avoid the faster moving water flow, but it is still something that has to be addressed.
  2. Impact of the ocean floor – This was not really mentioned in the article, but what would be the impact of the ocean floor itself having these wind farms underwater? Could it possibly cause some underwater spouts to appear? I know, it sounds very farfetched, but nevertheless it is something to consider.

Here are the links to some of the articles that are out on the web about these underwater wind farms:

The Atlantic:

What are your thoughts about these underwater wind farms?

Mafia Games Monday (MGM) – Crunch Time (again)! Part 2

December 15, 2014

Hello all!

So, last week I had to cut my blog post a little short because of rushing around in order to finish all of my projects as well as take my final exams. Now that the rush is over, I’m finally on a winter break (yay!). Finally looking forward to some quality time away from the stresses of school.

But…do stresses really “disappear”? Many would argue that they do, but to me, I personally do not think that they do. At least for me, there’s always something that I should do, which can sometimes bring stress upon me if it is urgent or has a strict deadline.

These stresses can really take a toll on your body, which is nothing really new to most of you. Health-wise, it can really be an issue.

Are you stressing about something? Or are you just putting something off right now because it’s too stressful to handle?

If it is either of these things, then do I have some news for you: this happens to ALL of us! That’s right, we all do this from time to time whether we want to believe it or not.

Ok, well what does all of this have to do with Mafia Games?? This is MGM today after all!

Well, with many owners, stress is just a part of owning a game. There will always be stresses when it comes to owning a game, such as: will I make enough to afford the server payment this month? Are there more users playing the game than before? How can I make this game more exciting? PLEASE SOMEBODY HELP!!

Ok, that last part was a little extreme, but you get the point: stress is something that we all experience as game owners at least some point. Well, what can you do about it? After all, it’s not really something we can control, right? Well, yes and no. The stress-or itself we do not usually control, but how we react to said stress-or is what we can control. So with this in mind, what can we do to ensure that we are handling stress well?

…you were thinking I was going to give you a bullet list, weren’t you? Well, this time, it wouldn’t make sense to. We are all different and handle stress differently. There’s only one thing that I would advise to all of you out there: if the amount of stress that the stress-or is placing upon you is greater than the benefit of getting through that stress-or, then do NOT continue. Simple as that, folks. As long as you keep that piece of advise at least in check, then the stress that you are receiving from this stress-or will be worth it in the end.

Mafia Games Monday (MGM) – Crunch Time (again)!

December 8, 2014

Hello all!

This week is finals week for my Master’s classes, and as with last semester, this semester again I have had to stay up late in order to ensure that I have completed all of my projects and am ready to take my final exams this week. It certainly is not the greatest feeling not getting too much sleep as well as the fear of looking at what I did, as it certainly may not even be usable.

However, with all of this said, is procrastination a terrible thing? Well, depends on who you ask. It certainly can be for most people, but for others that deadline is the only way in order to ensure that they complete their projects.

I certainly am not going to go through the same bullet list I made for that blog post (which is located here); however, what I can say is that at least for me, it is not the greatest feeling in the world. I like to take my time with completing projects in order to ensure that I get them done with the highest quality as well as make sure that I have the proper time allotted in order to perform proper testing.

Because of the pressure of the finals I have to take this week, I am going to stop the post here and continue onward next week when I have some more time. Go procrastination!

That’s all for now, until next time…keep that tech gear ticking.
